People regularly lament about how violent and backwards the society we live in still is. However, in the 7 years La Fête du Slip has existed for, it is clear that the world has changed despite it all. In the last year, there have been the #metoo movement, a debate in francophone circles about making the French language less sexist, and RuPaul’s Drag Race has become more of a mainstream TV event in Europe, just to mention a few examples.

When we started out in 2012, “feminist” was a heavily charged word—we described ourselves as “sex-positive” to avoid using the term. Today, it’s almost the opposite: you are no longer asked if you are a feminist but what type of feminist you are.

When we started out, words like “non-binary”, “intersectional”, “heteronormative” or “BDSM” had to be explained every time, whereas today they used more and more.

In 2018, we invite you to acknowledge the battles we still have to fight, but also the ones that we have won. Come again to celebrate with us the amazing diversity of sex and sexualities, and to explore new ways of creating more openness and justice for all.
